Approval

What is An Approval Rating?

Typically, an approval rating is given to a political figure based on responses to a poll in which a sample of people are asked whether they approve or disapprove of that particular political figure.

What we think people will find interesting:

  • We think people will find it interesting to note that every president leaves with a lower approval than their highest approval.
  • We also think it is interesting to see how many presidents leave with a rating below 50%. And how few have left with over 60%.

Sidenote:

We feel that “exit approval” is likely the main focus here, as this is the best representation of how well the people feel that president did during their entire term.

THE DATA:

Comparing “approval” can be complicated, so we figured that 50% of the people should be the baseline. In these charts, we made 50% of the people, the zero mark. Here you can see if more than half the people approved or disapproved and by what margin.
